Kings coronation procession on The Mall

A moment in history – The Coronation of their Majesties, King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

We’ve been fortunate enough to have The Royal British Legion, an Armed Forces Charity, as one of our valued clients for many years now. Having worked with them on their presence at the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, an emotional, challenging, yet important project, we were glad to continue our support at the jubilant and historic celebration of The Coronation of their Majesties King Charles III and Camilla.

Objectives.

The Royal British Legion have a long-standing relationship with the Monarchy and as done with previous royal events, were to provide a procession of Standard Bearers and National Parade Marshals at The Coronation. Outside of this was a programme of rehearsals, nightly dinners, and a final night awards dinner for the group.

Our key deliverables for this project were handling all travel logistics for the group, finding a venue for the awards dinner and sourcing accommodation for 120 delegates in London during the busy Coronation week period. The venue had to be suitable for the programmed activities and within convenient distance to the parade itself.

As a high-profile event, it was of utmost importance that we found a space where the members of the Royal British Legion were comfortable and ensured every aspect of their event was a positive experience, reflecting on their tasking parade performance.

Solution.

8 months felt like a luxury amount of time compared to previous reactive projects, and after various site visits with our client we confirmed Thistle Marble Arch, a 4* central London property with plenty of event spaces and revamped bedrooms for the group.

With the location confirmed, we developed our in-house registration platform to collect delegate information including all travel requirements. We provide a full-service for the Royal British Legion and booked all flights, airport transfers and train journeys, with tickets sent to the delegates directly from us.

Outside of the operational logistics, we developed a creative solution for the final night awards dinner that ensured the group finished their historic Coronation experience on a high, and saw the branding for the Royal British Region charity throughout the venue.

From us of here at the RBL we want to thank you once again for all your hard work before, during and after The Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla. You made it all look so easy and took everything in your stride. We know just how hard you both worked to ensure seamless travel, accommodation and the ever important getting all the National Parade Marshals and Standard Bearers fed.

But it was also the little details, the Coronation Confetti, bunting, the poem, it all made the week end on such a high and I know everyone will be talking about it for a long time to come. Kelley, we are so pleased that you were able to attend the procession in the Grandstands situated outside of Buckingham Palace, albeit very wet. Classic British weather! Emma your boundless energy and excitement was contagious!!

Until the next time, from all of us…THANK YOU!!

Results.

As the event consisted of numerous rehearsal evenings, the groups’ needs and space required changed as rehearsals progressed. We’re used to being fluid in our work onsite and worked quickly to secure additional meeting spaces required for further rehearsals, kit inspections and kit cleaning.

On-street rehearsals had to take place overnight to ensure that the public didn’t catch a glimpse. This involved coach transfers done under the cover of darkness, and so we provided staff to cover all late-night hours of the operation.

Train disruptions also took place towards the end of the event, meaning our teams strategized and reorganised delegate return travel whilst still onsite. These challenges are nothing unusual for our teams; we were thrilled to make such an iconic event happen for a UK charity doing truly fantastic work for veterans.
